The Brett Favre Factor
July 24, 2010
If you are in a 10 or 12 team
league that does a draft, listen up, you may want to pay attention.
Many teams go after Quarterbacks in the first round, only to find
themselves short on top notch running backs in the second and third
rounds. If you follow what I call the Brett Favre factor you can have
yourself a starting lineup by the 7th round. Some of you by now may be
asking “What exactly is the Brett Favre factor?”
Most drafts, including those this year, will find Peyton Manning always
going in the first round. Along with Manning, you will probably see
Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees also go in the first or second rounds.
This is where you can get your top two running backs or running back
and wide receiver. In rounds three through six draft your other key
positions including tight end and then in the 7th take your QB, a QB
like Brett Favre. In 2006, Peyton Manning was your top fantasy QB;
however, if you waited later in the draft you could have had Marc
Bulger who was 3rd, Carlson Palmer 5th, and Jon Kitna the 6th top
scoring QB. In 2007, Manning was the 4th highest scorer among QB's
where if you waited Tony Romo was 2nd, Brett Favre 5th, Matt Hasselbeck
6th, Carlson Palmer 8th, again all probably drafted after the 6th
round. The following year 2008, Peyton Manning was 6th, meanwhile Jay
Cutler was 3rd, Aaron Rodgers 4th, Phillip Rivers 5th,. I will bet once
again Manning was drafted in most leagues and picked by most so called
experts to be the top drafted Quarterback. Last year Mr. Manning was
4th best quarterback; however, if you waited, the 2nd highest scoring
passer was Matt Schaub, and 7th highest was Brett Favre who if drafted
at all probably went no higher than the 7th round. It takes some
homework but here at Shock Jocks, we will help you out.
Once again
after the 7th round you can probably find Brett Favre, Jay Cutler
(remember who the new offensive coordinator is), Joe Flacco (and new
addition Anquan Boldin), Matthew Stafford (look at their wide
receivers, new tight end, new rookie running back, and strong offensive
line), Matt Ryan, and if Matt Schaub is available in the 6th jump all
over him. In one league that I have been in since 2006 here are the
QB's that were on the championship team: 2006 Tony Romo, 2007 Carson
Palmer, 2008 Matt Schaub and 2009 Brett Favre. Notice Peyton Manning
and Tom Brady were conspicuously NOT on any of those teams. So be smart
when drafting your quarterback and look to history.
