This Is What It Looks Like To Lose Your Team
November 4, 2010
I
have never seen 2 coaches lose their teams like Wade Phillips and Brad
Childress have this season. You hear commentators posing the question
every year, “Has So and So coach lost their team?”
I’ve always wondered what that meant. It never seemed to me
like anyone they asked that of actually did lose their team, but this
year—it certainly applies.
As soon as Tony Romo was carted off the field 2 weeks ago you could see
it. The team gave up. And the post game interview with Phillips went
something like this, “yea we didn’t get the job
done. We got out coached, out hustled, and outplayed. We will just have
to rally behind Jon (Kitna) and turn our season around. We can still
make the playoffs. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah…All this
being said in his usual downtrodden voice, eyes downcast, and waiting
for the torturous news conference to end so he could then drag his
sorry ass up to Jerry Jones’ office and get his tongue
lashing. Can you imagine being the coach that screwed up
Jones’ dreams of playing the Super Bowl in his Tower of Babel
stadium? Pure poetry. OK so the next game comes along and the Cowboys
look even more lackluster than the week before. Game over. No playoffs,
no Super Bowl, no Grandeur, but with Jones the Delusions of such will
never die. Oh well, there’s always next year.
Now Brad Childress. Wow. Your team has a Hall of Fame QB who you
won’t allow to play “outside” YOUR
system. You have a stud Running Back who is arguably the best in the
league at his position. You have a Pro Bowl Defensive End and you have
a #1 quality Defense. What do you get for all of that? You get nothing.
I’ve watched your team all year and your play calling sucks.
Why do you refuse to run against poor run defenses? Why do you NOT
allow your QB to audible? Why do you NOT make the adjustments you need
to (that per Randy Moss)? Not enough questions? Hmmm…let me
see if I can find some more. Why do you NOT take the advice of your
players? Why do you sign a great receiver that can play decoy all game
and open up the rest of your offense and then decide on your own that
you don’t want him and release him? Why do you tell the team
Moss is no longer on the team before you actually tell Moss? Why do you
NOT consult your owner or GM prior to releasing Moss? Oh
that’s right, it’s in your contract that you have
final say on who’s on the team. Maybe you’ve been
hanging out with Jerry Jones too much. Is the megalomania getting to
ya? The sad thing is that you lost your team weeks ago and just were
too stupid to realize it. Now I kinda understand why 3 of your players
had to fly to Mississippi and drag your QB back for another season. He
CAN’T STAND YOU!!! That’s why. You have done what
no other competitor in 20 years has been able to do…you made
the game NOT fun for Brett Favre. How’s that taste fool? If
I’m the owner you’re gone. With the talent on your
team you should be undefeated. You have destroyed your team. I
don’t usually blame coaches, but in this case it’s
definitely YOU. Your players don’t like you, they
don’t trust you, and they no longer want to play for you. See
ya Childress, you will be gone next year. And if you’re not
then Wilf is a fool too.
This is what it looks like to lose your teams.
